There are a wealth of ideas on the key Lost numbers - 4 8 15 16 23 42. Here are some of the roles that these numbers have played in the episodes thus far.

The two numbers 8 and 15 have appeared together in several episodes:

Oceanic Airways Flight 815
Kate’s safety deposit box was 815
Charlie sold a copy machine with a model number C815

The number 4 can be seen when the castaways describe the passage of time - 4 days, 4 years.
4 has also appeared as a number when counting various objects within the island including the number of bullets with which Ana was hit.

The number 23 is seen in the reward money for Kate ($23,000) and in the row that Jack and Rose sat on the ill-fated flight. It is also the number of tailies that originally survived.

The number 42 is seen when Locke is filling in a crossword puzzle.
