The Long Con Recap

The Long Con starts with Locke and Jack in the gun closet. Jack asks Locke for the combination and Locke gets slightly defensive. Locke mentions that Jack should stash the medicine in there as well … we’re not sure why yet.

It doesn’t take long to find out. Next thing we know, Jack is going through Sawyer’s tent, taking the medication. Sawyer gives him the evil eye as he walks away.

* Flashback to Sawyer in bed with a girl. He notices the clock and jumps up, worried he’ll be late for his “meeting”. His suitcase opens, displaying quite a bit of cash … or newspaper disguised as cash. The girl asks if he was trying to con her, saying that she got nothing in her recent divorce. She then asks him to show her how to con people.

Kate visits Sawyer with a gift (an ancient magazine). Sawyer mentions that Jack and Ana Lucia are forming an army. Kate’s a little bummed not to have been asked.

Hurley approaches Sayid, asking if he can help fix a “glorified walkie-talkie”.

Ana Lucia and Jack are treking through the forest, but Jack isn’t so willing to disclose the combination to the gun safe.

Sun is out in the garden when she begins to notice movement in the bushes around her. Vincent comes running out, only to disappear seconds later. A torrential downpour soaks her, and out of nowhere a black bag covers her face, her hands are tied, and she is dragged away. Sawyer and Kate hear the screams and run to find Sun face down on the ground, bloody. Kate heads off for Jack while Sawyer carries her back to the tent. It takes about two more sentences of dialogue for them to figure out the Others are behind it.

Locke defends them, saying that they promised to leave them alone, but Ana Lucia wants to head after them with guns. Jack says they should wait until Sun wakes up and ask her what happened. Sawyer and Kate go back to the scene of crime to look for “clues”. Sawyer finds it all a big suspicious, seeing that Sun got away from them. They find a hood, but it’s not the same as the one placed over Kate’s head. Sawyer notes that it is a different color and weave, and they begin to think that someone else is behind it. Sawyer wonders if it is Jack, doing it to get the remaining castaways to join their army.

* Flashback to Sawyer and his girl, preparing for a con. Sawyer approaches a couple of guys at a gas station and asks if they want to buy some necklaces. When they are hesitant, the girl wanders over and asks to purchase a couple, causing the guys to follow suit.

Kate approaches Jack and expresses concern over Ana Lucia. He shakes his head (in disbelief?) and walks away. But then he confronts her after she says that a couple of other people are willing to sign up.

Sun wakes up. She says she didn’t see anyone, but she kicked and fought and ran. She and Jin-Soo argue and Jin-Soo asks Jack for a gun. Kate and Ana Lucia lock eyes and Kate thinks that Ana Lucia is making a play for the guns. Kate asks Sawyer to tell Locke that they are coming to get them.

* Flashback to the girl asking Sawyer to do a long con. When he mentions that he needs money to start it, she tells him that she lied and actually has 600k from her divorce.

Sawyer finds Locke alphabetizing the books in the hatch and warns him that everyone is on their way over. Locke asks Sawyer why he’s telling him this, and Sawyer responds that he wants to “piss off Jack.” Locke asks Sawyer to help him move the guns, of course helping him really just means that he stays and pushes the button in the hatch.

* Flashback to Sawyer sitting in a diner. A guy (Gordie) walks up and joins him, asking if he “got her?” all 600k? Sawyer agrees and the guy realizes Sawyer likes the girl that he has been conning. The guy tells Sawyer that has to go through it, and threatens him if he doesn’t.

Jack and Jin-Soo arrive to find the guns are gone. Jack’s not a happy camper. He approaches Locke on the beach and Locke says he’s taking responsibility for the guns. After arguing, gunshots are fired. Sawyer comes strolling in with a gun. Locke is shocked, he thought he hid them well.

Sawyer is a bit pissed that his stash has been distributed, and he’s slightly angry that Locke and Jack have taken control of camp. He gives a little speech and declares that everyone must go through him to get a gun. The boys are not too happy, especially with his parting words “There’s a new sheriff in town, you best get used to it boys.”

Kate’s a wee bit mad, it seems she’s the victim of yet another one of Sawyer’s cons.

* Flashback, Sawyer arrives home. He tells the girl that she was the long con, and that Gordie is outside waiting for the money. He tries to explain himself and says he wasn’t gonig to take the money, but Gordie is threatening to kill them. He tells her to get out the back and explains where to go. He gives her the cash and pushes her out the door with a last “I love you.”

Kate confronts Sawyer, asking how he got the guns. She is upset, saying that he played her and asks if he harmed Sun. He replies to the contrary. She asks why he’s doing it, and he says that’s what he does - he cons.

Sayid approaches Hurley and they attempt to find a signal. After some static, they get a clear radio signal. Sayid is quick to note that it could be coming from anywhere.

Sawyer’s out in the forest when Charlie wanders in. It appears Charlie followed Locke and led Charlie to them. Sawyer offers him the drugs, but Charlie reveals his motives - to make Locke look and feel like a fool. Charlie also divulges that he was the one who “captured” Sun.

* Flashback to Sawyer. He’s in the house with the money. It appears he didn’t give it to the girl after all.
