Approaching Lost

Episode 03.07 Recap

by Nikki on February 7th, 2007

That first scene was quite confusing. Didn’t realize it was a flashback at first! We see Juliet sitting on the beach and then she’s in a hallway with Ethan. Next thing we see is Juliet in a room with a woman, Rachel - her sister. Rachel appears to have cancer, and also who appears to be doing some sort of infertility treatments. The needle injection scene was no fun.

Kate and Sawyer beat their captors up after Jack’s call to escape! Why didn’t they do that before? Surprising to see that Juliet wanted Kate and Sawyer brought back. Perhaps it was her way to ensure that Ben dies?

Jack spills the beans about Juliet wanting Ben to die, so they send her out of the operating room. And Ben wakes up, having heard it all? Who administered the anesthesia? Benasks for Juliet and they have a quick little conversation.

Kate and Sawyer find themselves in a tough spot. The Others are after them, with guns. Then Alex appears out of nowhere to hide them.

* Flashback - Edmund appears on the scene, with the same last name as Juliet. Related? Spouse? Let’s hope not since he’s obviously sleeping with the new research assistant! Then we learn that Juliet’s doing some “research” on her sister. A frightening undertaking.

Seems Alex and Sawyer are pretty similar in attitude! Liked the back-and-forth retorts. Alex agrees to get them a boat if in return they help save Karl.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall while Ben and Juliet spoke!! All we know is that Juliet seemed pretty upset after Ben’s comments, then she comes out and asks Jack to finish the surgery while she helps Kate and Sawyer escape.

* Flashback - Juliet is speaking with another company (Mittelos Biosciences) about fertility research. We learn that she has impregnated a male field mouse, although it did not carry to term. Juliet tells the man that her ex-husband (Edmund?) would never let her go. He asks why and she says that Edmund won’t let her do anything. Only perhaps if he was hit by a bus.

Karl is being held in some intensely loud room with music and flashing movie images. He has an IV and is obviously in some drug induced state. Juliet appears to try to help the four escape.

* Flashback to Juliet and Rachel, who is now pregnant. Juliet tells Edmund the news, just before he gets slammed into by a bus. Hmm, wonder who initiated that little murder!

Kate, Sawyer, Alex, and Karl make it to the boat, only to have one of the Others (Danny) appear on the scene with a gun. He points at Sawyer. Kate tries to jump between them seconds before Juilet steps out of the woods and shoots Danny several times in the chest.

We learn that Alex is Ben’s daughter. Juliet says that Alex needs to stay so that Ben will let Karl live.

Kate retells Jack his story about surgery and he fixes up his botched artery tear on Ben. Kate cries during the entire tale… including when Jack tells her not to come back for him, no matter what. It seems she still has some feelings for Jack, much to Sawyer’s dismay.

Jack and Juliet talk after the surgery. Jack wants to know what Ben said to her to make her want to save him. He says Juliet owes her.

* Flashback to Juliet crying in the morgue. Ethan hands her a tissue (she doesn’t know him), and Mr. Albert (the man she interviewed with from Mittelos Biosciences) steps up beside him. Juilet insinuates that they killed Edmund but they chalk it up to coincidence. They ask Juliet to come work for them again and she asks if Rachel can join her. They say that she’ll be working pretty remotely, not quite in Portland. Yeah… thousands of miles away on an island actually!!

Juliet says that she’s lived on the island for 3 years, 2 months, and 28 days. Ben said that if she let him live that he would finally let her go home.
