Tricia Tanaka is Dead Recap
* Flashback to Hurley as a child (a very thin child) with his dad, trying to start a car. They’re planning a trip to the Grand Canyon but his dad needs to go to Vegas for business. His going away present is a big bar of chocolate. A sad Hurley tears into it.
Hurley recounts being captured by the Others to Libby’s grave. He says the only time he’s not scared is when he’s with her. “I miss you Libby.”
Hurley meanders over to Charlie and asks why he’s been moping for the past few days. Charlie tells him about Desmond’s premonitions. Hurley says that Desmond might be right because Hurley is cursed and death finds him. Vincent runs up to them with a nasty looking, decrepit arm. Hurley chases him back into the jungle. After Vincent drops the arm Hurley finds a car key with a rabbit foot in the hand. And then he finds a car.
* Flashback to Tricia Tanaka, a news reporter, interviewing Hurley after his lottery winning. She asks why he bought Mr. Clucks. “I like chicken?” Tricia then asks what else has happened since his lucky winning streak. Hurley says that a lot of it has been unlucky. His grandfather died, his mom’s house ran down, his friend ran off with his girlfriend. Tricia and her reporter wander into Mr. Clucks for some more photo shoots. A paranoid Hurley asks if all the burners are off and if it’s safe for them. He turns around just in time to see a meteor fly through the sky and land in the middle of Mr. Clucks.
On the beach Jin and Sun are arguing about speaking English. Hurley runs up with news of the car. He wants to fix it up but everyone wonders why. “To have some fun!” They all need to have some fun. Unfortunately for Hurley, everybody walks away. Everyone but Jin.
Sawyer and Kate head through the jungle to the beach. Sawyer steps on a dart and Kate pulls it out. “All you have to say is your sorry,” Kate tells him. Then they can start over with a clean slate. But Sawyer says he has nothing to be sorry for.
* Flashback to Hurley walking through the front door of beautiful mansion. His house I presume. His mother asks him what’s wrong. Hurley tells her about the Mr. Clucks incident and says that he is cursed, that the numbers are cursed and he has to go to Australia. His mother says that she can prove that he’s not cursed. After seventeen years, his father has returned.
Hurley and Jin take “Roger” out of the car, dropping his head in the process.
“So when it’s going to happen?” Charlie asks Desmond on the beach. Desmond says he was drunk, and it doesn’t work like that. Sawyer approaches the two and asks where all of his stuff is. Desmond and Charlie admit to drinking the scotch.
Sawyer finds Hurley and Jin and asks for his stuff. Hurley welcomes him with open arms and seems determined that things are turning around and Jack will be back soon. Hurley enlists Sawyer’s help with the car by bribing him with the beer stashed in the back.
Kate’s on the beach packing to go save Jack. She tells Locke and Sayid that she’s going to get help.
* Flashback to Hurley, his mother, and father sitting at the dinner table eating hamburgers and lasagna on fine china. We learn that his father arrived back on the scene because his mother called and invited him. Hurley thinks he came back on the scene for the money and says he’s giving all the money away anyway – to get rid of the curse. Hurley’s mother tells him that she has her own needs, after seventeen years, and then tells him to show his father what’s in the garage. It’s the same car from the earlier flashback.
Hurley goes to start the car and nothing happens. Sawyer pops open a beer while Jin works on the car. “No fixing,” Jin tells him. Hurley says he just wants a little hope and Sawyer says he’s on the wrong island. There’s no hope at all on this island.
* Flashback to Hurley’s father waking him up. He tells him that they’re going to break the curse. They visit a Tarot reader. Hurley cuts the deck of cards. She says that he has recently come into a great deal of money. Next card is that he has great misfortune. She then recites the numbers and says that there is darkness around them. The next card is the death card. She says death surrounds him and that more is coming. She holds his hands and says there is a curse on him, but it can be removed. She tells him to remove his clothes and she will exorcise the curse. Hurley interrupts him and asks if his dad put her up to it. After he offers her $10,000 she tells him the truth.
Sawyer teaches Jin some English words while Hurley prays. Hurley approaches Charlie and tells him that they both need to get this car started. They need to take their lives back.
Jin learns Sawyer’s “three things that all women want to hear”. “I’m sorry,” “You were right”, and “Those pants don’t make you look bad.” They push the car to the top of a really big hill and look down.
* Flashback to Hurley’s father telling him to give away all the money. “All of it, every penny. Then save up for a carburetor for the Camero. Just you and me. Take it off the blocks and take that road trip to the Grand Canyon. It’s never too late for a fresh start.” Hurley tells him that he’ll send him a postcard.
Hurley and Charlie climb in the car while Jin and Sawyer give them a push. “Victory or death,” Charlie says. After a harrowing drive down the hill the bus starts. Jin, Sawyer, and Vincent pile in the back seat and they cruise around.
Kate, Sayid, and Locke are in the jungle talking about where to start looking when they hear gunshots. Kate tells them to step back and then yells out that she just wants to talk. Danielle steps out. Kate asks for her help and tells her that the girl who helped her escape was Alex.
