Lost - Thoughts on Jack’s Flash Forward
So… I’ve been thinking about Jack’s flash forward and all the questions that have been left open! Please share your thoughts to the following questions in the comments area:
1. Do you think Kate and Jack were *together* when they first got off the island?
2. When Kate says “he’s waiting” - who do you think HE is?
3. Do you think Christian came back from the island too - or is Jack just so far gone he thinks his father is alive?
4. Why does Jack want to get back to the island?
5. How long do you think they’ve been off the island by this flash forward?

1 - No! I don’t believe they will be together, ever! 2 - Sawyer of course! 3 - Christian is dead; Jack was drunk! 4 - Because on the island Jack felt superior, had a major purpose, a feeling which he can’t find on Land. 5 - This is really an interesting question.. guess it will be time before we get the answer. I got the idea that the next seasons of Lost will be based on the characters being on LAND with flash-backs on the island. I don’t belive they they will be rescued by Naomi’s ship. But from s4 we will see them in the ‘normal world’ with a huge gap in between, and filling it up bit by bit, as I said, with flash-backs from the island. Wouldn’t it be cooool?

Zen,
Sounds interesting…ya never know with this show. I just hope they pull it off the same way they have been.
I can’t believe we overlooked the ‘casket’ question…who IS in the casket? I’ve heard Locke, Ben, and even Michael…Jack was asked if he was family or friend and he replied ‘neither’. Of course, that will depend on what actually transpires over the rest of the series.
I don’t believe they are coming off the island…maybe Claire and the baby as Desmond says…gotta have more payoff to Charlie dying don’t we? Since it’s not Penny’s boat apparently…we don’t know what Ben knows about this ‘boat’ and Naomi. THAT is the real question for next season.
the future we saw was a ‘likely’ future and I think somehow this changes in s4. For 3 seasons Jacks only purpose was to get everyone off the island and now that aspect is where the ‘game changes’.

1. No - Kate is a fugitive, she has to remain on the run living under a false identity
2. Unknown character not yet introduced on the show who does not know Kate’s true identity and has never been on the island(s).
3. Christian’s body was recovered in the ocean by Naomi’s freighter. That is how Claire and Jack discover they have the same father because the body is shown to Claire and Jack on the frieghter. In the season 3 finale, when he referenced his father in the conversation with the chief of surgery he was alluding to the fact that the hospital let his father operate in an intoxicated state on numerous occassions and therefore, the hospital should not discipline Jack for his own intoxication.
4. Jack can’t help but want to help those in need (like the woman and child in the car on the bridge in the season 3 finale), he wants to return to the island to rescue those who were left behind.
5. 18 months
Who was in the coffin? Juliet. Her ex-husband is dead (hit by a bus in a season 3 flashback) and perhaps we will learn her sister died of cancer after she returned from the island (Jacob can’t protect the sister anymore from cancer). That might be why Juliet commits suicide. So that’s also why no one was at her funeral, as she has no other family. Having been ont he island for over three years, she also doesn’t have any friends in the area. It explains why Kate’s reaction to Jack’s question about whether she went was “why would I go?” Kate never liked Juliet. Juliet’s death would also hit Jack hard and cause him further depression. In resposne to the funeral director’s question of “friend or family,” Jack’s answer of “neither” also makes sense. We will learn in season 4 that after the rescue, Jack tells Juliet he loves Kate before Kate tells Jack she can’t be with him (because she is a fugitive). For those of you who think it is Michael, would Jack get this upset if it was Michael who died?

One change to my previous answer. For #2, I think the “he” Kate refers to is her infant son. Apparently, if you get pregnant on the island, but leave, you don’t die.

1. no don’t think they are ‘together’ maybe only together in the sense they were the only two to get back.
2. ‘He’ is too obvious to be Sawyer, maybe she’s back with her husband who she truly loved.
3. First reference to his father I think was a blatant lie to get the medication, 2nd reference - off his face. New chief surgeon looked sorry for him.
4. Unfinished business or guilt to the way the others were left.
5. 6 months.

I thought the casket looked really small like a childs coffin, maybe the angle of the camera. I thought maybe Juliette too
