On Flight 815: Sun was traveling with her husband, Jin, who was delivering watches for her father.

Profession: Housewife

Prior to the Crash:
Sun was born into a high profile and powerful family. She attended the Seoul National University, majoring in Art History. Sun returns home without a potential husband and her mother sets her up with Jae Lee. The pair hit it off but Jae Lee plans on marrying an American woman. Sun leaves and bumps into Jin, who works at the hotel. Jin proposes to her.

The two marry, but soon after a woman approaches Sun, claiming to be Jin’s mother. The woman blackmails Sun so that she will keep quiet and not leak the fact that Jin is the son of a fisherman and a prostitute.

Jin becomes more and more distant from Sun as he works for her father. Jin plans to leave her marriage and begins taking English lessons from Jae Lee, after his marriage failed. Sun and Jae Lee have an affair and her father walks in on them in bed. Sun and Jin soon try for a child but a fertility doctor tells them that Sun is unable to conceive. The doctor later tells Sun that it is Jin who is infertile.

Jae Lee dies and Sun attends his funeral. Her father says he will not tell Jin of her affair.

Sun prepares to escape from Jin at the Sydney airport. But as she heads to the waiting car, she has a change of heart and boards the airplane with him.

After the Crash:
Jin is overly protective of Sun after the crash, but she quickly breaks out of her shell and even walks around in a bikini. She reveals to some of the other survivors that she speaks English. Sun is very eager to help those around her, especially Jack, and she even plants a garden to grow different herbs and fruit plants.

Sun speaks English to Michael to beg him to stop beating Jin. Jin is upset that she kept this secret from him and he leaves her. He decides to go on the raft that Michael has built. In a sign of truce Sun writes Jin a phrasebook that links English words to Korean phonetics. She begs him not to leave but Jin wants to find help to rescue them. They reconcile and the raft departs.

Sun and Jin are reunited when the raft is destroyed by the Others. One day while working in the garden, Sun is bagged and tied from behind. She escapes but does not see who tried to kidnap her. Sun passes out, and reawakens at the camp, remembering little of the traumatic experience.

Jin fears for her safety and tells her she cannot go to the garden. He even rips it apart. Sun returns to the beach, where she begins feeling light-headed. She asks Sawyer for a pregnancy test. It is positive. Sun tells Jin and also tells him that he is infertile, but swears that she has slept with no other.

Later, Sayid asks Jin to sail with him to the Others’ camp using Desmond’s boat. Sun says that if he goes, she must go to translate. Sun hides in the boat that night while the other two wait outside. Sun encounters Colleen and shoots and kills her. Sun escapes and makes it to shore.

Sun learns that her kidnapping was all staged by Sawyer, not the Others liked they all suspected. She slaps Sawyer and tells him that Jin will kill him if he finds out. She then refuses to speak to Sawyer.

When Juliet joins them in camp, Sun demands to know about the pregnant women on the island. Juliet takes her to the Staff station to learn the date of the conception. The baby was in fact conceived on the island, making Jin the father. This only leaves Sun with two months to live before the end of her second trimester.

Off the Island:
Sun is part of the Oceanic 6. Off the island she goes into labor and goes to the hospital. She has a baby girl that she names Ji Yeon, the name Jin had picked on the island. After she delivers she goes with Hurley to Jin’s gravesite where she cries and says that she misses him.

Key Character Relations:
Desmond - Indirectly. Sun takes a pregancy test manufactured by “Widmore Labs”.
Jack - She has a scene with Jack at the airport as Jin is in line.
Jin - Jin and she are married.
