On Flight 815: Claire was flying to L.A. to meet a couple who was interested in adopting her soon-to-be-born baby.

Profession: Worked at the Fish ‘N’ Fry, before that she worked at a tattoo and piercing shop

Prior to the Crash:
Claire was raised by a single-mother. Her only memory of her father is a lullaby he sang to her as a child. She was told that her father had died. As a teenager Claire and her mother were in a car accident (Claire was driving). Her mother was left in a vegetative state. Claire’s father, Christian Shephard, appears and pays for her mother’s medical care. He suggests that they take her mother off of support and Claire leaves angry, never getting his name.

Later on Claire has a boyfriend Thomas and works in a fast-food restaurant. She discovers she is pregnant and Thomas convinces her to keep the baby. He leaves shortly thereafter. Claire visits a psychic, Richard Malkin, who tells her that only she must raise her child herself because danger surrounded the baby. Claire decides to give up her baby and visits Malkin one last time. He tells her there is a suitable couple who will adopt the baby, but they live in Los Angeles. He gives Claire tickets for Oceanic Flight 815, which leaves the next day. Weeks after the crash, Claire realizes that Malkin foresaw the plane crash, leaving her with no choice but to raise her child alone.

After the Crash:
Claire goes into false labor after the plane crashes. Jack helps her and she also begins to bond with Charlie, who helps her with her luggage. Claire moves to the caves at Charlie’s insistence but begins having nightmares. She leaves the caves with Charlie right behind. They are kidnapped by Ethan. Charlie is rescued but Claire remains missing.

She is taken to the Staff station and treated by Ethan. He gives her vaccines and Rousseau saves her. Claire stumbles back to the caves but has no memory of the crash or of her disappearance.

Days later Claire goes into labor, and only Kate, Jin and Charlie are present to help deliver the baby. Rousseau arrives on the beach and kidnaps Claire’s baby. Charlie and Sayid go off to retrieve him and she names him Aaron.

Claire has a rocky relationship with Charlie. She remembers Charlie mentioning about his drug addiction, and forbids him to approach her or Aaron. Charlie steals Aaron in order to baptize him but Claire slaps him.

When Aaron becomes ill, Claire and Kate head into the jungle to search for Rousseau. The three of them then return to the Staff station, only for them to find it abandoned and ransacked. Aaron becomes better.

Charlie gives some vaccine to Claire for Aaron and they reconcile and later kiss.

Days later Charlie surprises Claire with a picnic. She learns of Desmond’s visions and that he thinks Charlie will die. She comforts Charlie. Later she gets sick, due to a lack of injections given during her pregnancy. Juliet treats her and she becomes well.

Claire travels with the group to the radio tower, not realizing that Charlie has drowned.

Off the Island:
We do not yet know if Claire makes it off the island.

Key Character Relations:
Eko - Indirectly. Richard Malkin was the psychic who led her to take Flight 815. Later, Eko visited Malkin’s daughter, Charlotte. Malkin told Eko that his daughter’s resurrection was fraud, and so are his psychic powers.
Jack - They are half-siblings.
