Chapter 3

Video:
Sam says that he wants to be dropped off at Christmas Island, but they already passed it. Ockham says that’s as close as Sam is going to get to Christmas. as they will be at sea, conducting a predetermined grid search, into January. Sam and Ockham talk about Talbot and where his funding comes from, though Ockham knows only that it is funneled in by a syndicate. Sam decides to snoop around Talbot’s room.

Game:
The viewer has to solve a series of puzzles and finding the correct code to Talbot’s briefcase.

Video:
Sam opens the briefcase and finds a confidential file from The Maxwell Group. The title reads “Proposed salvage of the Black Rock shipwreck”. Sam also learns that The Maxwell Group is part of Widmore Industries, Penny Widmore’s family’s business. Sam exits the room and runs into Talbot on his way out. Talbot accuses Sam of sneaking around, tells him that he is not an asset to the expedition, and warns Sam to stay out of his room.

Desktop:
Sam gets another email from an unknown sender with no subject. The email contains a string of letters with some in a smaller font size. A A B B C F C.

Sam also gets an email from Ian and Pam - Sonya’s parents. They offer to let Sam stay with them, as a gesture of familial support during his and Sonya’s upcoming anniversary. He replies to the message, declining their invitation. He writes that he is out of the country and won’t be back until the new year.

Video:
Sam hears strange noises and discovers that the electronic equipment on the Christiane I is behaving strangely. He presses a few buttons. The lights come back on and everything returns to normal.

Desktop:
Sam emails Tracey, asking for her opinion about the strange behavior of the instruments. She replies and says that it was likely caused by lightning, a temporary failure inside the electrical system, or even possibly a strong wave of electromagnetic energy. She also recommends that Sam take some time off and suggested the travel agency BaliHolidayFun.

Video Diary:
Sam thinks it may prove worthwhile being stuck aboard the Christiane I because he has connected Talbot to The Maxwell Group, the source of the mysterious emails he has been receiving. He also has figured out that the scrambled email contained geographic coordinates, and plans to pinpoint their location on Talbot’s chart plotter. Sam mentions Sonya, remembering her openness and how she brought him out of his shell. He appreciates that his present circumstances allow him to be doing something, even though he still misses her.
