Recap
On the Island:
Sayid is standing on the island with his eyes closed. He looks over at Naomi’s body. Miles approaches Jack, saying that he’s supposed to find Ben. Sayid walks over to Naomi. He closes her eyes. He pulls the blanket over her head. He sees her bracelet. On the inside it says “N, I’ll always be with you. R. G.”
Sayid then tells Lapidus to take him to the ship. Lapidus says he can’t carry much weight, only 3 of them. Sayid says he can bring Charlotte back safely. “If I do, will you take me to the ship?” he asks. “Absolutely,” Lapidus says. “If you bring Charlotte back safe, I will take you off this island.”
Flash Forward:
Sayid drives on a golf course. A cart pulls up. “Good morning,” someone says. He begins a conversation with Sayid and recommends the five-iron. They begin a wager. Sayid hits his ball onto the green while his friend asks what he does for a living. “I do nothing,” Sayid says. “I was the recipient of a large settlement.” He says it was a plane crash, he’s a survivor of Oceanic 815 and he’s one of the Oceanic Six. The guys says he read all about it and shoots his ball closer. He says not to worry about the wager and he tries to leave. Sayid pulls out a gun and shoots him (Mr. Avalon?) … dead? The sprinklers turn on while Sayid walks away.
Sayid walks into a posh restaurant. He walks through and sits down beside a young woman. He’s holding a map. “Where would you like to go?” she asks. She then asks him what he’s doing in Berlin. “I’m a head hunter,” he replies. “A corporate recruiter.” She asks if she knows him from somewhere. Sayid invites her to dinner and she draws on his map the location of a restaurant.
Sayid then walks down the street and makes a call on a cell phone. “I’ve made contact,” he says before throwing the phone in the trash.
On the Island:
“Take a look at this?” Sayid says, showing Jack and Juliet the picture of Desmond and Penelope that Naomi was carrying. Sayid says he’s going to make Locke release Charlotte and he feels that Jack can’t do it. Miles tags along.
In the jungle James continues to threaten Ben, wanting to get the name of his spy on the boat. Locke stops and looks around. He finds some sand in the forest. “It should be here, the cabin,” Locke insists. “John’s looking for someone to tell him what to do next,” Ben taunts. Locke says he was mistaken and it doesn’t matter - they’ll keep going to the barracks.
Hurley asks if they can let Charlotte go but Locke says he wants to keep her as a hostage. “That’s not what I signed up for,” Hurley says. He and Locke argue and Locke says he’s making the decisions.
Back at the helicopter Kate tells Jack that it kind of sucks not to be invited along. They exchange some witty banter and Kate smiles at Jack. He tells her she should go with them. She doesn’t look very happy. Jack says that Sawyer won’t let Locke hurt her … she turns and heads off with them. Lapidus asks about Sayid and Jack reveals that he was a torturer in Iraq.
Sayid asks Miles if he was close to Naomi. He thinks he didn’t care about her or Charlotte.
Flash Forward:
Sayid and his blonde-beauty make out before heading to the opera. She decides to leave her pager at home - the one her employer uses to keep in contact with her. Sayid says he will take it, so she doesn’t get fired over him. She asks him why he is still there and he replies that the job is taking longer than he thought.
On the Island:
Daniel is setting up some sort of transmitter/antenna thing. He says he needs to borrow the phone from Lapidus and wants to run an experiment. Jack watches as Daniel tells her to fire a payload. Jack and Lapidus step back. Daniel looks around as she counts down. “I don’t have it,” Daniel says when she hits zero and nothing lands.
Sayid and the gang approach the village. The swings are swaying in the wind but all appears to be silent. They hear a noise and go running into one of the houses, guns drawn. They open a closet and it’s Hurley, bound and gagged. I guess Locke had too much of him! “They left me,” he says. He explains about Locke acting strange and that he got left behind. “Locke says they were going to go by Ben’s house before they took off,” Hurley says.
Jack asks Lapidus if the Red Sox really won the Series. Suddenly something comes flying in from the sky and hits the ground. “It’s a rocket,” Daniel explains. One timer says 2:45:16 (the one on the island), the other timer says 3:16:22 (the one from the rocket). 31 minutes apart. “Oh no,” Daniel says. “This is not good.”
Juliet arrives with Desmond. He seems pretty excited to see the helicopter!
At Ben’s house Sayid finds a secret tunnel behind a bookshelf. He enters a room with a closet, money, an array of passports with Ben’s pictures.
Kate is checking under the bed when she sees feet and the door shuts. She stands up, gun pointed, and it’s Sawyer. Kate yells for Sayid, but it’s too late. Locke, Rousseau, and Hurley follow suit. “Good job Hugo,” Locke says. Hurley looks down and says he’s sorry.
Sayid is stashed in a room with Ben. Kate is stuck in the room with Sawyer. She asks what he’s doing with Locke … Sawyer asks what she is doing with Jack. Sawyer tells her that he doesn’t want to leave the island, because he doesn’t have anything back there for him. He asks why she wants to go back. He says they have roofs over their heads, electricity, food, showers… But she asks how long they will get to play house.
Locke brings Sayid a tray of iced tea. Nothing for poor Ben! Sayid tells Locke that he doesn’t trust the freighter people, but if he returns with Charlotte safely he can go to their boat and find out who they are. Locke tells him that Ben has a spy on the boat. “Who?” Sayid asks but Ben says it’s a secret. Sayid asks again for Charlotte. He says that he never expected him to give her over for nothing …
Flash Forward:
Sayid and Elsa are lying in bed. She says she knows nothing about him and that she wishes he would tell her more. She admits to being in love with him. He says, “okay, no more secrets … what do you want to know?” And the beeper goes off. She says she has to go. “Where?” Sayid asks. He closes his eyes. He then says that she has to leave Berlin. “They will be asking questions soon, about what happened to your employer, that you can’t be around to answer.” She steps forward. “This is about my boss?” she asks. “Who are you? You used me to get to my boss.” Sayid replies, “The man you are working for is not an Economist.”
Elsa turns and shoots him before picking up the phone. “You were supposed to page me at ten-thirty. No I didn’t kill him. He’s not going to give up the name now. Why should I keep him alive. No. He had no idea. All right, I’ll bring him to you. Leave the hotel.” Sayid grabs a gun and shoots her. He has tears in his eyes as she dies. He closes her eyes and touches her bracelet.
On the Island:
Desmond asks Lapidus about the picture. Lapidus won’t answer him. Sayid comes over the hill. Jack asks where Kate is … “She decided to stay,” Sayid says. He then tells Lapidus that he traded Miles for Charlotte.
Charlotte and Miles say they are going to stay on the island to work. “Just be sure that you follow the same bearing that we came in on,” Daniel tells Lapidus. No matter what. Lapidus takes Sayid, Desmond, and Naomi’s body on the chopper. Sayid loks out over the island and the water.
Flash Forward:
We see animal cages. Sayid takes his shirt off. “Is she dead?” Sayid asks. “Why didn’t she kill you?” someone asks. Sayid says that she wanted information about his employer … “about you,” he says. Then we see the person. It’s Ben!!!! He asks Sayid why he’s crying, because it hurts or because he was stupid enough to care for her? “These people don’t deserve our sympathies,” Ben says. “Do you want to protect your friends or not.”
