Daniel Faraday

Actor: Jeremy Davies

On the Island: Daniel parachuted onto the island with the other Freighter People

Profession: Appears to be some sort of scientist.

Episode Appearances:

Episode 4.01:
A helicopter flies overhead and drops parachutists. Jack runs toward them. Daniel removes his helmet. “Are you Jack?” he asks.

Episode 4.02:
Two ROVs underwater, a unit searching for something. Trying to get a peek over a ridge. Picking up a lot of anomalies. There’s an airplane. It’s Oceanic 815. Footage from the Christiane I. Daniel is in a room viewing the footage of the airplane. He’s upset, but he says he doesn’t know why.

Next we see Daniel in a helicopter. He parachutes out into the rain. Something comes running out of the jungle. He pulls out his gun. Jack and Kate come running in. “Hey there, are you Jack?” he asks. Jack asks who he is. “Daniel Farady. I’m here to rescue you.”

Kate, Jack, and Daniel stumble upon the box. Daniel starts to get nervous as they pull out a gas mask and other supplies. Jack then asks why Daniel brought the gun. “Just a precaution…” Daniel says that rescuing them was not the primary objective. “Then what is?” Jack says. The signal interrupts the conversation as Daniel runs off saying “It’s Miles!”

Daniel reveals that he is a physicist. Miles says if he talks any more he will personally break his fingers. Sayid wants to know why they have no reaction to the fact that they survived.

Episode 4.03:
Daniel is setting up some sort of transmitter/antenna thing. He says he needs to borrow the phone from Lapidus and wants to run an experiment. Jack watches as Daniel tells her to fire a payload. Jack and Lapidus step back. Daniel looks around as she counts down. “I don’t have it,” Daniel says when she hits zero and nothing lands.

Later something comes flying in from the sky and hits the ground. “It’s a rocket,” Daniel explains. One timer says 2:45:16 (the one on the island), the other timer says 3:16:22 (the one from the rocket). 31 minutes apart. “Oh no,” Daniel says. “This is not good.”

Episode 4.04:
Daniel goes with Jack, Juliet, and Charlotte to the beach. Charlotte asks Daniel which cards she has laid on the table. Daniel gets two out of three right.

Episode 4.05:
Jack asks Charlotte why they haven’t heard from the helicopter. “What makes you think I know anything?” Charlotte asks. Juliet wonders why she’s not worried. She and Charlotte exchange some uncomfortable words. “Maybe we should just tell them,” Daniel says. Charlotte tells him not to say anything, “we don’t want to confuse anyone.”

“Your perception of how long your friends have been gone … it’s not necessarily how long they’ve actually been gone,” he says. Jack asks what he means. “It’ll be fine, as long as Frank flew on the bearings I gave him,” Daniel says. If he didn’t, there might be side effects.

Sayid finally touches base with them. “Something happened during the flight and now Desmond is in their sick bay,” Sayid says. Daniel looks distraught. He asks if he has recently been exposed to high levels of radiation or magnetism. He says that some people coming or going on the island can get confused. Juliet asks if it is amnesia. “No, this is not amnesia,” Daniel says.

On the boat Lapidus hands Desmond the phone so that he can talk to Daniel. Daniel tries to explain to him. “What year do you think it is?” Daniel asks. “It’s 1996,” Desmond says. Daniel asks where he is supposed to be. “When it happens again, get on a train and go to Oxford, Queens College, physics department,” Daniel says. “I need you to find me.”

Daniel searches through his bag to find his journal. He says that it is a random effect, sometimes it splits a couple of hours, sometimes a couple of years. Jack asks if this has happened before. Daniel tells Desmond what to tell him when he meets up with him, giving him coordinates and saying to mention that he knows about Eloise. Desmond writes it on his hand.

Off the island, Desmond walks through the University until he finds a long-haired Daniel. He mentions that he’s from the future and that Daniel can help him. Daniel thinks it is a prank. “So uninspired,” he says. Desmond tells him to set his device to specific coordinates and oscillation. “I know about Eloise,” Desmond says. Daniel leads him into a lab. He dons a vest to avoid the radiation. Desmond asks what protects his head and Daniel just sort of laughs it off! Daniel takes a mouse out of a cage. “This is Eloise,” he says. He puts her in a maze and turns on a light. “She’s not back yet,” Daniel says. Then she’s back. He releases her into the maze and she races through. “It worked!” he shouts. Desmond asks why it is so incredible. “What’s so incredible is that I created the maze this morning,” Daniel says. “I’m not going to teach her how to run it until an hour from now.”

“You sent her to the future?” Desmond asks. “Her consciousness … her mind,” Daniel says. “So how does that help me?” Desmond asks. “You? Weren’t you sent back to help me?” Daniel asks.

Desmond flits back to the island and then finds himself sitting as Daniel writes on the board. “Off almost 75 minutes,” Daniel says. Desmond says he was gone for about five minutes. He looks over and Eloise is dead. “How?” Desmond asks. Daniel says he doesn’t know and he’ll do an autopsy later. And he doesn’t know if Desmond will die either. He says that Eloise didn’t have an anchor, something to keep her in both places. Daniel tells him that in order to stop this from happening, he needs to find something in the future that he really really cares about, that also exists back here in 1996.

Later Daniel looks through his journal. He finds a page that says “If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant.”

Episode 4.06
Daniel is looking at a map. “What happens if… what if I can’t do it?” he asks Charlotte. “Dan, look at me,” Charlotte says. “I know you can do this. We should get going.”

“Yeah,” Daniel answers. “Of course.”

Kate comes stumbling in and Charlotte pulls a gun on her. “Whoa, whoa, it’s okay. It’s Kate,” Daniel says.

“So they have Miles?” Daniel asks Kate. Kate says that they’re treating him fine. She then asks the duo what they are doing out there. “The sat phone ran out of juice,” Charlotte replies, even though Kate can see that her phone has a green light.

Charlotte says they volunteered to get the packs that they threw out of the chopper. “So what’s that?” Kate asks, pointing to their bag. “Just borrowed this,” Daniel says. Kate asks if she can take a look.

“Go ahead Dan, show her,” Charlotte says. Daniel puts the bag down. Kate opens the bag and sees the gas masks. Charlotte knocks her over the head with the gun.

“What?” she asks Daniel with a shrug.

Later Juliet walks into the station. Daniel is at the computer. “Override denied,” the speakers continue to say as Daniel types frantically. Juliet pulls the gun on Daniel. “Juliet, what are you doing here?” he says.

Juliet tells Daniel to step away from the computer. “I’m so sorry, I can’t do that,” he replies. He says that he’s trying to make the gas inert. “I’m trying to make it safe.”

Charlotte attacks her from behind. The two scuffle around the floor as Daniel pounds on the computer. The contamination level is increasing. Juliet pulls the gun on Charlotte and tells her to tell Daniel to stop. Charlotte says that Ben will use the gas to kill everyone on the island. The countdown stops at 2 seconds and shuts down. The levels begin to fall. “That … that was a close one,” Daniel says.

Episode 4.06:
Lapidus walks across the deck of the freighter while holding a bag. “Lapidus,” Keamy says as he walks toward him. “You ready?”

“I’ll be up,” Lapidus says.

“Don’t be late, Lapidus.”

Lapidus walks down a hallway. A woman sits outside a door, reading a book.

“Regina,” he says. She looks startled. “Lapidus, I didn’t hear you.”

“Sorry. Didn’t mean to spook you. The captain wanted me to bring these guys some grub.”

“Okay,” she says.

“You know, your book’s upside down,” Lapidus continues.

Lapidus opens the door and goes into Sayid and Desmond’s room. He asks Desmond how he is feeling.

“Much better, thanks,” Desmond says.

“Why are we being held captive?” Sayid asks. “We had nothing to do with Minkowski’s death.”

“This has nothing to do with Minkowski,” Lapidus says. He says the captain wasn’t very happy that they busted out of sick bay

“We didn’t bust out. The door was left open. We assumed it was you,” Sayid says.

“Why the hell would I do that?” Lapidus asks. He dumps some canned food out of his bag onto the bed.

Sayid picks one up. “Lima beans?”

“Sorry, we had a little problem in the kitchen. Just stay put, alright?” Lapidus turns to leave.

“I still want to talk to the captain,” Sayid says.

“No you don’t,” Lapidus says. He knocks on the door, “Regina.”
