Character Profile
Juliet Burke
Actor: Elizabeth Mitchell
On the Island: Juliet was one of the Others.
Profession: Fertility Doctor
Prior to the Crash:
Before the crash, Juliet had been on the island for approximately three years.
Juilet’s history prior to the island was working on fertility experiments in Miami. There she secretly, and successfully, impregnates her sister, who is stricken with cancer. She is then approached by Dr. Alpert to work for Mittelos Bioscience. Juliet begins to cry and says that the only way her ex-husband [Edmund Burke] would let her go if is he got hit by a bus. Well, he got hit by a bus! Juliet takes the job, even though she is worried about leaving her sister and knows she would have no contact for six months.
Once on the island it is Juliet’s task to determine what happened with the pregnant women. Unfortunately she can’t solve the problem and they continue to die. Ben tells Juliet that her sister’s cancer has returned. If Juliet stays and helps them, Jacob will make the cancer go away. Juliet stays and begins an intimate relationship with Goodwin. Goodwin’s wife is the island therapist, Harper. Harper learns of their relationship and isn’t very happy.
Ben also learns about the relationship and sends Goodwin off to join the Losties when the plane crashes.
After the Crash:
Juliet wasn’t introduced until Season 2. She is the only one who seems to have her own mind in the Others’ camp.
Ben tries to wine and dine Juliet but she is concerned about Goodwin and wants him to come back. Ben says that he’s making a case for Ana-Lucia. Almost inappropriately so. And there’s no reason for him to hurry back.
Later Ben leads Juliet to Goodwin’s body. She rushes down to him, saying “Oh my God, Oh my God!” She tells Ben that he wanted Goodwin to die. “Why?” she asks. Ben yells back at her and tells her that after everything he did to get her there, to keep her there. “You’re mine,” he says. “Take as much time as you need.”
Juliet is the first point of interaction with Jack during his captivity in the Hydra. She tells Jack that he can trust her. When Jack decides to perform the surgery on Ben’s tumor, she covertly (via videotape) asks him to let Ben die. She changes her mind later, after speaking to Ben, and tells Jack to save Ben’s life so that they can go home. Unfortunately Locke blows up the submarine, preventing she and Jack from leaving
Juliet helps Kate, Sawyer, and Karl escape off the smaller island by shooting Danny Pickett. She then claims to have been left behind when the Others left their camp and she is handcuffed to Kate. It was a plan devised by Ben to get Juliet into the Losties’ camp.
At the camp, Claire becomes ill and Juliet says she recognizes the symptoms as withdrawal from a medication given to Claire when she was kidnapped by the Others. She treats her. It is later revealed that Claire’s sickness had been induced by an implant placed inside her to be activated whenever Juliet arrived at the beach. This allowed Juliet to quickly gain the trust of the survivors. Later Juliet performs an ultrasound on Sun and discovers she is pregnant. She confesses to Jack everything but says she is tired of living Ben’s dream.
Juliet turns on the Others and assists the Losties in setting up a trap, marking X’s on the tents that contain dynamite instead of pregnant women.
Juliet and Jack have some chemistry and Juliet even kisses Jack before she leaves.
She kisses him again outside the power station after she confronts Charlotte and Daniel (the freighter people).
Juliet tries to keep Sun at the camp as she is concerned about her pregnancy. She even tells Jin about Sun’s affair to prevent the couple from heading off to Camp Locke. She apologizes to Sun but says that she is her doctor.
Off the Island:
We do not yet know if Juliet makes it off the island.

[…] Juliet is raking a zen rock garden. She looks around the room. A woman enters. Her name is Harper and she’s a therapist. “How about we call it talking, instead of therapy,” she says. “So you’ve been here a week.” And she asks what her least favorite part thus far. “I don’t like being treated like a celebrity,” Juliet says. Harper says that she is not a celebrity. And soon enough she’ll feel like the rest of them. […]
