Recap
On the Freighter:
Lapidus walks across the deck of the freighter while holding a bag. “Lapidus,” Keamy says as he walks toward him. “You ready?”
“I’ll be up,” Lapidus says.
“Don’t be late, Lapidus.”
Lapidus walks down a hallway. A woman sits outside a door, reading a book.
“Regina,” he says. She looks startled. “Lapidus, I didn’t hear you.”
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to spook you. The captain wanted me to bring these guys some grub.”
“Okay,” she says.
“You know, your book’s upside down,” Lapidus continues.
Lapidus opens the door and goes into Sayid and Desmond’s room. He asks Desmond how he is feeling.
“Much better, thanks,” Desmond says.
“Why are we being held captive?” Sayid asks. “We had nothing to do with Minkowski’s death.”
“This has nothing to do with Minkowski,” Lapidus says. He says the captain wasn’t very happy that they busted out of sick bay
“We didn’t bust out. The door was left open. We assumed it was you,” Sayid says.
“Why the hell would I do that?” Lapidus asks. He dumps some canned food out of his bag onto the bed.
Sayid picks one up. “Lima beans?”
“Sorry, we had a little problem in the kitchen. Just stay put, alright?” Lapidus turns to leave.
“I still want to talk to the captain,” Sayid says.
“No you don’t,” Lapidus says. He knocks on the door, “Regina.”
On the Island:
Sun sits by a fire. Jin brings wood over and sits beside her. “What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Sayid and Desmond left three days ago. Why haven’t they come back?”
“Perhaps they are returning with the ship,” he says. He then says they need to start talking about baby names. Sun replies that it’s bad luck to talk about baby names.
“Ji Yeon. I want to name her Ji Yeon,” Jin says.
“I don’t want to talk about names,” Sun replies.
“You don’t like Ji Yeon?” Jin asks.
“No, it’s beautiful. Let’s get off the island first. Then we can pick a name.”
“Deal,” he says in English. They shake hands.
Flash Forward:
Sun packs her bag and starts to put on lipstick. She winces and then emergency services. She tells them that she’s pregnant and she thinks something is wrong.
Flashback:
Jin walks into a toy store and tells the clerk he needs a panta. The clerk asks if he would like it gift-wrapped. “No,” Jin says. “I have to get to the hospital.”
“Maternity ward?”
Jin agrees. The clerk asks if it is a boy or girl.
“I don’t know yet,” Jin says.
“Don’t worry. Everyone loves a panda.”
Jin’s phone rings and he says he’ll be right there. He grabs the panda and runs out.
On the Island:
Jin is sleeping in the tent. Sun comes in and tells him that Kate and Jack are back. They go outside. Kate is filling her water bottle.
“What happened?” Jin asks as he and Sun walk up.
“You mean before or after the redhead knocked me out?” Kate asks.
“She hit you?” Sun asks.
Kate explains that Charlotte knocked her out on the way back from Locke’s camp while they were on the way to a poison gas factory. “Juliet told Jack it was a power station,” she says. “Why would she lie about that?” Sun asks. “Force of habit?” Kate says.
“Why were they going there?” Sun asks. Kate says they were going to turn it off, deactivate the gas, earn some brownie points.
“Do you really think they’re going to rescue us?” Sun asks. Kate says that in all the time they’ve been there, they’ve talked about a lot of things, but none of them involve rescuing.
On the Freighter:
Desmond wakes up in the room in the freighter. “Good morning,” Sayid says as he looks over.
A note is thrown through the grill on the door. “What’s that?” Desmond asks. “It’s a note,” Sayid says. “When I was in Locke’s camp, Ben said there was a spy on this boat.”
Sayid unfolds the letter. It reads: DON’T TRUST THE CAPTAIN.
On the Island:
Sun walks up to Daniel and introduces herself.
“I’m two months pregnant,” she says
“Oh you’re - wow - uh, congratulations,” Daniel replies.
“So are you here to rescue us?” she asks. He doesn’t reply. “It’s a simple question. Are you or are you not going to rescue us?”
“Thing is, it’s not really my call, Sun.”
“Then whose call is it?” Sun asks. He doesn’t reply again. “Thank you,”she says and walks away.
Elsewhere, Jin says to Jack, “Can you pass the cereal?”
“Pretty good English, Jin.” Jack says as he hands over some Dharma cereal.
“Thank you. I understand better than I speak,” Jin says.
Jack asks if Sun has been teaching him. Sun yes, and Sawyer too. But Sun is better.
“I bet,” Jack says as Sun walks up. “Hey Sun, how are you feeling?”
“I’m good, thank you,” she says. “The morning sickness has stopped. Which has been nice”
Jack says if she needs anything, just let her know.
Sun then tells Jin that he needs to do what she says, and not ask any questions. He asks what’s the matter. She says he needs to find food for two days and meet her at her tent in 20 minutes. “We’re going to Locke’s camp.”
Later Sun searches through a tent. Juliet walks in. “What are you doing?”
“I needed another bottle of those vitamins you gave me. The prenatals,” Sun replies.
Juliet says that she could have just asked and then wonders what happened to the last ones she gave her.
“The last bottle I gave you? There should be twenty left. Are you planning a trip?” Juliet replies
“Please, just give me the vitamins,” Sun says.
“Where are you going, Sun?”
“We’re going to Locke’s camp.”
Juliet wants to know why and Sun says she doesn’t trust these people.
“Whether you trust them or not,” Juliet says, “you can’t go there. Locke doesn’t want to leave the island and I’ve told you, Sun, pregnant women, they don’t survive here.”
Sun agrees that she said that.
“You don’t believe me,” Juliet says. “Look, I know that I have been less than truthful about certain things since coming here, but I promise you Sun, I promise you, I’m not lying about this. After everything you confided in me, I should at least have your trust.”
“Claire’s baby is fine.” Sun says. “I feel fine. All I have are your stories that I’m going to get sick. I’m going to do what’s best for me and my baby. Because, no, I don’t trust you.” Sun takes the vitamins from Juliet.
Flash Forward:
A nurse wheels Sun into the hospital. The nurse tells another nurse that Sun is one of the Oceanic Six. They put Sun in a bed and try to take off her jewelry. As they try to take off the ring Sun says, “Stop! What are you doing?”
“We remove all jewelry,” the nurse says. “It’s for the swelling.”
“No, not my ring!”
A doctor walks in and says, “I’m Dr. Bae. I’m on duty for Dr. Park.”
“Where is he? What’s happening?” Sun says.
“He’s away at a conference.” He tells the nurse to give Sun something for her pain. The nurse injects her. The doctor examines her and tells her that the baby is in distress.
“What’s wrong?” Sun asks.
“That’s what I’m going to find out. Is there anyone we should contact? Your husband? Your parents?”
“Just get Jin, my husband,” Sun says. “Jin. Just get Jin.”
“I’ll try to reach him,” the doctor says.
Flashback:
Jin runs out of the toy store and hails a taxi. He opens the taxi door and puts the panda in the back seat. His phone rings and he answers it, saying he’ll be right there. Another man bumps into him, and Jin drops the phone. The phone gets run over as the man jumps in the taxi with the panda bear and drives off.
Jin yells, “Stop! You bastard! I will kill you! I will find you! I will hunt you down and rip your head off!” He throws the phone on the ground and goes back into the toy store. He can’t find another panda. The clerk says that he had bought the last one.
Jin sees another panda behind the counter. The clerk says that it is on hold. Jin puts a bunch of money on the counter and says he needs a panda. The man gives him the panda and says, “Don’t lose this one.”
On the Island:
Kate draws a map for Sun and Jin. She says that she is going to have to tell Jack, but she’ll give them a head start. “I’d tell him myself, but I don’t think he’d understand,” Jack says.
Juliet steps forward. “She’s not going anywhere. Sun, this is a bad idea,” she says.
“What concern of it is yours” Sun asks.
Juliet turns to Jin. “Do you understand your wife’s medical condition, right now,” she says. She tells Sun to translate for her. Sun says no. “Your wife is very sick. If she doesn’t get off this island in three weeks, she will die,” Juliet says to Jin. “If you let her go, your wife is in danger.”
“Where Sun go, I go,” Jin says.
“Sun,” Juliet says, “please.”
Sun walks away and Juliet says, “Jin, your wife had an affair.”
Sun stops and turns.
“What?” Jin says.
“Sun was with another man. She thought the baby was his.”
Sun walks over to Juliet and slaps her across the face. She looks at Jin. He turns and walks away. “Jin,” she calls out.
Back at camp Jin packs his fishing gear and Sun runs over to him. “Jin, Jin, talk to me. Let me explain. It was a long time ago. Look at me. Just look at me. I understand you are angry and I have no excuse. Please let me explain.”
Jin starts to walk away and Sun says, “Let me explain!”
Bernard walks up and asks if he can tag along. He notices Sun is crying.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he says. “I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
Jin tells him to come and they walk away.
Once they are on the boat they start fishing and talk. Bernard says that they are the only two married guys on the island.
“It’s not easy, is it?” Bernard says. “Oh, I mean it’s wonderful, but let’s face it, every decision that you make takes twice as long because you always got to talk them into it.”
Bernard hesitates and says, “Rose has cancer. She’s sick, dying. Well, at least she was dying. She says she’s better now. She says it’s this place, the island. But when the camp split up, I was sure that she would want to go with Locke. Why would she want to leave the island and risk getting sick again?”
Jin asks why they are staying with Jack then.
“Because it was the right thing to do. Locke, he’s a murderer. It’s all about karma, Jin. You know karma?”
Jin gets a bite on his line and pulls in a fish. “You see,” Bernard says, “now that’s karma. We must be the good guys, huh?”
On the Freighter:
Desmond and Sayid here some banging. Desmond is annoyed. “Someone is just banging those pipes again and again?”
The door opens and Ray comes in. “Gentlemen,” he says, “thanks for your patience. The captain would like to see you now.”
They all go out to the deck. Sayid asks where the helicopter is and Ray says that Lapidus is running an errand.
“What kind of errand?” Sayid asks.
“I’m a doctor, I don’t know where he’s going.”
“Did he go to the island?” Sayid asks.
“Do you know anywhere else he can land?”
Desmond watches as Regina, with chains around her body, jumps off the side of the boat. Desmond and Sayid run over and start yelling for someone to save her.
A man walks out and says, “Stop! It’s over. She’s gone. Everybody get back to your posts. That was an order.”
He turns to Sayid and Desmond. “I’m Captain Gault. I suppose you two have a few questions.”
They ask him about Regina and why he did nothing to stop it.
“I did not jump in, or order my crew to jump in, because I did not want to lose any more people.” Gault says.
Desmond asks what’s going on.
“Some of my crew have been dealing with what might best be described as a heightened case of cabin fever. I think it’s got something to do with the close proximity of the island.”
“Why don’t you turn around, then?” Sayid asks.
“I’ve tried, but we have a saboteur on board and he’s done one hell of a job on my engines. I’ve got my crew working around the clock to repair them.”
“And then you’ll take our people home?” Sayid asks.
“And then we’ll move to safer waters. Those are my orders.”
“And I don’t suppose you’ll tell us who gave you those orders?” Sayid says.
“Sure I will. Charles Widmore.”
“This,” Desmond says, “is Charles Widmore’s boat?”
“Do either of you know what this?” the captain asks as he puts down a box in front of Sayid and Desmond.
“It’s a flight data recorder, otherwise known as a black box,” Sayid replies.
“That’s exactly what it is,” the captain continues. “Now here’s the funny thing. This black box comes from Oceanic flight 815. A salvage vessel recovered it from the bottom of the ocean. It took a considerable amount of Mr. Widmore’s resources to procure it.
“It was found with the wreckage of the plane, along with all 324 dead passengers. That’s not the complete story, as you are well aware, Mr. Jarrah given the fact that you are standing here, breathing. The wreckage was obviously staged. Now can you imagine the kind of resources and manpower go into pulling off a fake of that magnitude? Faking the recovery of a plane crash. Putting 324 families through a grieving process, based on a lie. But what’s even more disturbing, where exactly does one come across 324 dead bodies?
“And that, Mr. Jarrah, Mr. Hume, is one of the many reasons why we want Benjamin Linus.”
On the Island:
Sun sits by herself on the beach. Juliet walks over and tells her that she’s sorry and had to stop her. Sun says that it wasn’t her place to stop them.
“I know you don’t trust me, but you need to get off this island, we all do,” Juliet says. “In about three weeks you’ll be in almost constant nausea. A week after that, you’ll experience shortness of breath that won’t go away. A week after that you’ll lose consciousness and slip into a coma. And then, Sun, you will die. And when your heart stops beating, so will the baby’s. And that, Sun, is why it is my business, because you are my patient. If you go, you will die and your baby will never be born.”
Flash Forward:
Sun cries out. The doctor says he has to perform a C-section.
“No,” she says.
He tells her that the medication makes a natural birth difficult.
“No, no! Not until Jin…” she says. She asks where her husband is.
“He’s not here yet. We cannot wait.”
Sun sees a man walk by and calls out for him. It’s not Jin. The nurse says that the baby is crowning. The doctor tells her to push.
Sun pushes, grunts, moans and has the baby.
“Congratulations. You have a baby daughter.” He gives her the baby.
On the Freighter:
Ray leads Desmond and Sayid to their new room, in the quiet part of the ship. He opens a door. Cockroaches run around the room. There is a blood stain on the wall.
“That shouldn’t still be there. Damn it.” Ray turns to a man mopping down the hall. “Hey, Johnson, is that you?”
“Yeah.”
“Mop this up,” Ray says.
The man wheels his bucket over. It’s Michael. He looks at Sayid ad then Desmond.
“Kevin,” Ray says, “this is, uh-”
“Sayid,” Sayid says.
Desmond says his name.
“Kevin Johnson,” Michael says as he shakes Desmond’s hand.
“Nice to meet you, Kevin,” Sayid says and shakes Michael’s hand.
On the Island:
Jin walks into the tent and tells Sun that he made dinner.
“I thought you had left me,” she says. “Will you let me try to explain?”
“I know why you did it,” Jin says. “I know the man I used to be before this island. I withheld my affections and I know that whatever you did, you did to that man. His actions caused this.”
He says that he forgives her and Sun smiles. He says that he will go to Locke’s camp but she doesn’t want to go anymore.
“Why?” he asks.
“Juliet was very convincing. We have to get off this island. These people have a helicopter. We have to try.”
He asks if the baby is hers. Sun nods and swears that it is. “It’s yours. I love you so much.” They hug. “I thought I had lost you.”
“I love you too. And you will never lose me.”
Flashback:
Jin runs into the hospital and a nurse points him to the maternity ward. He walks up to a man and bows. “I am Jin-Soo Kwon. I represent Paik Automotive. I heard the Ambassador is now a grandfather. I came to present a gift.”
“Wait here,” the man says and turns. Jin asks if it’s a boy or a girl. “A boy.”
Jin ties a blue bow around the panda’s neck.
Another man walks out of the room and Jin bows again. “Mr. Ambassador, this panda is a symbol of Mr. Paik’s eagerness to do business in the great country of China. Please accept his congratulations.”
“Thank Mr. Paik for me. Tell him I’ll call.”
Jin walks out of the hospital. The nurse says “Back so soon?”
“It wasn’t my baby.” Jin replies.
“Well, maybe someday.”
“Don’t rush me,” he says. “I’ve only been married two months.”
Flash Forward:
Sun puts on her wedding ring and lipstick. The doorbell rings. It’s Hurley, wearing a suit. They hug.
“I can’t believe you came all this way,” she says.
“You kidding? Is anyone else coming?” Hurley replies
Sun says “No.”
“Good. So, where is she?”
Sun takes him to see the baby. He says that she’s awesome. Sun hands the baby to him.
“Wow,” he says. “She looks just like Jin.”
“Yeah, she does.”
Hurley hands the baby back to Sun and says, “So, I guess we should go see him.”
“Of course,” Sun says.
They go to a cemetery and Sun kneels in front of a tombstone.
“Jin, you were right. It’s a girl. The delivery was hard on me. The doctor said I was calling out for you. I wish you could’ve been there. Jin, she’s beautiful. Ji Yeon. I named her just like you wanted.”
On the left side of the tombstone is 1980 3 . On the right side is 1974 11 27 and 2004 9 22.
“I miss you so much,” Sun says. “I miss you so much.”
