These flashbacks are presented in the order that they were viewed on the show. In parenthesis are numbers corresponding to the order that they flashbacks would appear chronologically for Hurley’s life.
Episode 1.18: Numbers
(4) Hurley is on the couch at his mother’s house. He’s eating chicken and watching TV. His mother tells him to go out and find a nice woman. Hurley catches the lottery results. After the last number is read he faints and breaks the coffee table.
(8) Later Hurley is surrounded by reporters. Hurley says that the numbers just came to him. His grandfather Tito, keels over dead.
(9) Hurley drives his mom in a Hummer through a nice neighborhood. A ton of bad things have happened since he won the lottery. “Like Grandpa, and then at the funeral, Father Aguilar getting struck by lightening. Man that was a freak storm. And Diego moving back home after Lisa left him for that waitress.” He says he thinks the money is cursed. They stop in front of a huge home. It’s a new house for his mom. She trips and her ankle snaps. Hurley sees a fire in the upstairs window. A police car arrives and he is arrested.
(10) Later Hurley sits his accountant. His stocks are up, all due to horrible circumstances. He even made money on a settlement from the LAPD for the false arrest. Hurley says the money is bad luck. The accountant asks how he got the numbers. Hurley realizes that the numbers are cursed. As the accountant tells him that the numbers are not cursed, they see someone falling off the side of the building past their window.
(11) Hurley walks into a hospital and asks for Lenny, or Leonard. A doctor walks out and recognizes Hurley. They walk in the courtyard. The doctor leaves Hurley with Lenny and Lenny sits there repeating the numbers, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. Hurley asks him what the numbers mean and says he used them to play the lottery. Lenny tells him he shouldn’t have done that. “You’ve opened the box.” He says that it doesn’t stop and that Hurley has to get away from the numbers. Lenny says he got the numbers from Sam Toomey in Australia.
(14) Hurley knocks on a door in the middle of nowhere. A woman answers and he asks for Sam Toomey. She says she is his wife and he has been dead five years. Hurley tells her that her husband worked with a Leonard Sims. She says they served together in the navy. It was then that they heard the numbers, while monitoring wave transmissions out in the Pacific. Sam used the numbers to win money in a guessing game. That night she lost her leg in a car accident.
Episode 1.24: Exodus Part 2
(15) Hurley awakes in a hotel room. He’s late, the alarm didn’t go off. He’s in a hurry to make the flight because his mom’s birthday is tomorrow. He runs to the elevator but its full so he takes the stairs. His car breaks down on the way to the airport. He goes to the wrong terminal, and flight 815 is already boarding. Hurley runs through the airport and buys a motor scooter from someone for $1600. He makes it to the gate but the jet way is closed. Hurley begs to get on. The attendant calls someone and lets him through, saying that it’s his “lucky day”.
Episode 2.04: Everybody Hates Hugo
(5) Hurley’s mother slaps him to wake him up. She tells him that it’s heart and he needs to change his life. The phone rings. It’s someone wanting to know what color car he wants.
(6) Hurley is at Mr. Clucks looking at his winning lotto ticket. His boss yells at him and Hurley quits. He walks out and his friend Johnny comes running out, saying he quit too. They go look at CDs and Hurley works up the courage to ask the clerk, Starla, out on a date. She can’t on Friday because she has to work, but agrees to Saturday. He and Johnny then go out and mess with their ex-boss. Hurley begs Johnny to promise that no matter what, this will never change. Johnny makes jokes but Hurley says that he is serious.
(7) Hurley and Johnny pull into a gas station. A news crew is interviewing the clerk. Johnny wants to see what is going on but Hurley stays in the van. Johnny yells to Hurley that someone won the lottery. The clerk points to Hurley and says that it’s him.
Episode 2.18: Dave
(2) Hurley sits with Dr. Brooks. He begins talking about his weight and cries. He says if he weren’t so fat, those people never would have died. Dr. Brooks tells him it was an accident and Hurley says it was his fault. Dr. Brooks brings up Dave and says that Dave doesn’t want Hurley to lose weight. Hurley says that Dave is his friend. Dr. Brooks shows Hurley a photo and says that Dave isn’t real. Hurley has his arms around nothing in the picture.
(3) Later Dave wakes Hurley up. Hurley says it’s a hallucination but Dave slaps him. Dave then says he took the keys from Dr. Brooks desk and he encourages Hurley to unlock the window. Dave jumps out the window and Hurley slams it shut on him.
Episode 3.10: Tricia Tanaka is Dead
(1) A young Hurley works on a Camero with his dad. His dad tells him that he has to make his own luck. He then says he’s heading off on a business trip and tells Hurley to hold down the fort.
(12) Hurley is interviewed by Tricia Tanaka in front of Mr. Clucks because he just purchased it. Hurley continues to talk about all the bad things that have happened, including Johnny running off with his girlfriend, Starla. Tricia and her crew go inside the restaurant, right before a meteor falls from the sky and crashes into the building.
(13) He goes home, to see that his father has arrived after being gone for 17 years. Hurley is angry at his father but he convinces Hurley to see a psychic. The woman is a fake, paid for by his father. Hurley gets mad and says he’s going to Australia.
