More early Season 5 reviews
December 31, 2008 by Robin Parrish
Yesterday I told you about several members of the media who got to see the first two episodes of Season 5 early. Today I present to you an entire new slew of lucky ducks who saw it and are sharing their non-spoilery (except where marked) thoughts:
The Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan, aka The Watcher, has this to say amid some brief comments: “The opening minutes of the 2-hour season opener were really, really great. I don’t want to say what happens, but I felt like I was at Comic-Con, watching one of those special Comic-Con videos that the Lost creators sometimes unleash on the super-fans there. The start of the season premiere was just that nerd-tastic for hardcore Lost fan; it’s full of shout-outs and call-backs to classic Lost moments and trivia.”
Perennial favorite Doc Jensen from Entertainment Weekly watched the eps, and says to expect: “Lots of Sawyer in the first two eps. Lots of his naked chest, too. Lots of Hurley, and as for his chest, it is covered…with a very funny T-shirt. Sayid also has mucho screen time in both episodes, though he sleeps his way through one of them. Literally. And Daniel Faraday emerges as a huge player in season 5. The eps are dotted with cameos and extended cameos from peripheral but important figures crucial to the Lost mythology and much-loved by the Lost fan community.”
Cinema Blend’s Kelly West offers some heavier spoilers than most, particularly about the time travel aspects of the show, so I won’t repeat them here.
Kristin Dos Santos from E! Online puts her own twist on the “I saw it and here’s what I think!” procedings by sticking only to the various romantic entanglements the new season has to offer.
And finally, the ever-reliable Herc from Ain’t It Cool News offers his take on the premier episodes here, but I couldn’t tell you what he says about them because frankly, I haven’t read it and I’m not gonna. I have nothing but mad respect for Herc, but he tends to give away a LOT in his early reviews, and personally, I don’t want to be spoiled for the really important stuff.
