The Statue

March 5, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Because you know you want to get another good look at the statue, here it is in all its glory. Lostpedia has a great high-res image of it that’s a full 1,280 x 720 in pixels, so you can examine every detail up close.

The thing looks very Egyptian in influence, and the Ankh symbol it holds only solidifies the “ancient Egyptian” connection. One popular theory I’ve seen floating around the Net today is that perhaps it’s not Egyptian, but ancient Tunisian, since “the Exit” leads to Tunisia (Egypt and Tunisia are very close to one another).

What it all adds up to is anyone’s guess, but with the hieroglyphic symbols seen around the island (on the Temple, in the countdown clock at “the button,” in the frozen wheel chamber, and on Ben’s hidden underground door leading to the smoke monster), the connection between the island and ancient Egypt or Tunisia is growing stronger all the time.
