Artwork #15: “The Polar Bear” by Jay Ryan
November 30, 2009 by Robin Parrish
The penultimate art piece was revealed over the weekend in Chicago at 44th Ward Dinner Party at the Grilled Cheese Funhouse. The URL for the piece, wellitsadelicioussandwich.com, was emblazoned on napkins given to all patrons.
The piece is called “The Polar Bear,” and it depicts the moment before the polar bear attacked the castaways in the pilot of the show, as they walked through a field of long grass. (Has anyone else noticed that almost all of these “iconic” moments chosen for depiction in art come from the show’s first season? There were plenty of iconic moments in later seasons. Why didn’t we see more pieces from outside of Season 1? What about “We have to go back!”? A piece called “The Freighter”? Ben vs. Widmore? Mrs. Hawking? Ajira Airways? Jacob?) The piece was done by artist Jay Ryan.
Only one more to go, and the speculation is that it’s going to be something very special.
