Pre-Game: LOST 5.05 “This Place Is Death”
February 11, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Tonight brings us the fifth episode of Season 5, “This Place Is Death,” and as always, I’ve got all the necessary prep materials to get your brain cells fired up for the latest installment of Lost:
- First, I strongly suggest reading up on the complete history of Danielle Rousseau, helpfully compiled in detail by the good folks at Lostpedia.
- Next, check out Doc Jensen’s usual wild thoughts over at Entertainment Weekly. This week he focuses his theories on the show’s time travel.
- Take a look at this clever billboard in L.A. See anything familiar?
- If you’re in the mood for some teasers that lean toward the spoiler end of the spectrum, take a look at this new interview with a very loose-lipped Daniel Dae Kim (Jin), who has some juicy things to say about the smoke monster, his on-screen wife Sun, and the atomic bomb recently seen (and buried) in 5.03 “Jughead.”
- Lastly, watch this first edition of ABC’s new recap series, Lost Untangled, which aims to make sense of Lost for the casual fan. It’s geeky and a little silly, but very funny. (My favorite part is when Jack faints.)
And as always, be sure to check back here first thing tomorrow morning for my full recap and insights into tonight’s episode!

LOST Official Podcast 2-7-09
February 6, 2009 by Robin Parrish
It’s all about Daniel Dae Kim’s Jin in this edition of the Lost Official Podcast. Turns out, he did know all along that Jin was not really dead, and was sworn to secrecy. He also mentions that his storyline with the young Danielle and her Frenchman crew is going to give Jin a unique place in the show’s mythology…
Lost’s winter press tour
January 17, 2009 by Robin Parrish
There’s much buzz around the Net about the Lost Winter Press Tour event and what executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse had to say there. They screened the third episode of Season 5 for select members of the press and then held a Q&A session, during which some serious and not-so-serious questions were fielded. TV Guide has the best summary I’ve seen of what went down. A few highlights:
- Nestor Carbonell is contracted to the show through next year’s final season. After almost losing him permanently to last year’s short-lived CBS drama Cane, Darlton decided not to risk losing Carbonell’s Richard Alpert again, because Alpert plays a key role in the final two seasons.
- The show only gets more mythology-laden from here — and not just the mythology of the island, but the histories that have been built around each character. According to Darlton, “If the first episode of Lost that you ever see is the first episode of Season 5, you will not understand a majority of it.” Because of this, they’re not holding out any hope that the Emmys will reward them again in the future.
- Daniel Dae Kim is a series regular for Season 5. Jin is still a major part of the show, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s alive.
Daniel Dae Kim donates 500 toys
December 23, 2008 by Robin Parrish
Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) and his wife donated 500 toys to Toys for Tots Hawaii over the weekend. Toys for Tots is operated by the Marine Corps, as a way of getting toys to kids who otherwise wouldn’t get anything for Christmas. Toys for Tots Hawaii has been attempting to collect approximately 32,000 toys, and Kim’s and his wife’s generosity helped stem a shortfall of more than fifteen hundred toys.
Let’s hear it for Lost stars with Christmas spirit!
Daniel Dae Kim & Yunjin Kim Interview
November 14, 2008 by Nikki Katz
Entertainment Weekly interviewed Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim on location in Hawaii (watch the video here).
Daniel and Yunjin talk about Lost Season 4 and what is coming in the next few months. “Sun watching her husband, Jin, blow up in front of her eyes, that was as dramatic as we’re going to get on this show!” Yunjin says. Daniel believes that his favorite season is the first one.
Yunjin says that her character has been isolated in Season 5. “It’s really interesting, you get to see a new side of Sun!” Daniel tells us that the Oceanic Six are trying to get back to the Island and there is a lot of action going on.

Daniel Dae Kim Pleads No Contest to Drunk Driving
September 13, 2008 by Nikki Katz
Daniel Dae Kim pleaded no contest earlier this week to drunken driving charges. He was then ordered to pay a $500 fine, $212 in court fees and he has to perform 72 hours of community service. He also had his driver’s licensed revoked for six months and had to undergo a drug-and-alcohol assessment.
Kim was arrested last October when a police officer saw him driving erratically in Honolulu. He was tested and his blood alcohol content was 0.168.
During his court date, the judge scolded Kim. “You need to understand that 0.168 is more that double the legal limit. It means you were seriously impaired,” Judge Cardwell said. “And it just cannot happen again. It’s simply too dangerous.”
“Believe me, sir, I do,” Kim replied.
After the hearing Kim said that he is grateful and relieved that the matter has been resolved. “It’s been a pretty difficult time for my family and me. But I’m glad I had a chance to take responsibility for my mistake.”
Speculation has risen that Kim’s character on Lost (Jin) will remain dead after the drunk driving incident - as two other characters have been killed off after similar arrests. The roles played by Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros were eliminated in 2005 after they also pleaded guilty to drunken driving.
