Official V trailer

May 21, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Watch Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost’s Juliet Burke) in this 3-minute trailer for ABC’s new Fall scifi drama, V. V is of course a remake of the popular 80s miniseries and subsequent TV show, about aliens come to Earth with the promise of peace when their true aim is subversion. Mitchell stars as FBI Agent Erica Evans, and this trailer shows more of the overall plot of the show and the characters involved, than anything yet shown to the public.

Jury’s out on this one… But did that opening sequence remind you of anything?

What’s Juliet’s status on LOST? Plus: V

May 20, 2009 by Robin Parrish

According to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, actress Elizabeth Mitchell will not be back in Season 6 as a full-time castmember. However, Ausiello also says, “Multiple sources confirm that the actress is expected to appear in an unspecified number of episodes next season.” I have no idea what that means for the fate of Juliet Burke, but I’m glad she’s not gone forever.

In related news, ABC announced in its “upfront” presentation of new shows for Fall 2009 that its remake of the alien invasion saga V has been picked up as a series and will debut sometime midseason. Which, by the way, puts it right smack-dab around the same time that Lost returns for Season 6. (Would you watch a two-hour block of Lost and V back-to-back?) Also included in the presentation was news that Elizabeth Mitchell is not a mere guest star, as previously reported, but is in fact the ensemble’s lead character, Erica Evans. Evans is rumored to be the leader of the human resistance against the alien invasion. The full cast is shown in an ABC promotional image, at right. Some early peeks at the pilot episode for V are below.

Not included in ABC’s renewals for Fall is Harold Perrineau’s new cop drama, The Unusuals. Perrineau is remembered by Lost fans as Michael Dawson.

Elizabeth Mitchell’s status

May 15, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Still wondering if we’ve seen the last of Juliet? Take a deep breath and get used to it — you’re supposed to be pondering that question until 2010.

The good news, according to E! Online, is that actress Elizabeth Mitchell will appear as Juliet on Lost next year. But what capacity she appears in… That’s the question. Full time cast member? Recurring or guest star? And how will her appearance be explained?

Did Juliet change history and allow herself to live? Will she appear as someone dead, like Christian Shephard? Will she somehow survive what happened at the bottom of that hole?

Settle in, the wait for answers is going to be a long one.

May 11, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, & Elizabeth Mitchell weigh in on Jack’s plan to erase time by detonating a hydrogen bomb in the season finale of Lost, in this week’s Official Lost Video Podcast. Note that, as the headline says, this will be the last regular video podcast expected in 2009 (barring anything special) from ABC. With no further ado…

LOST on Ace of Cakes Saturday night!

May 8, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Do not — I repeat, DO NOT — miss Ace of Cakes on the Food Network this Saturday night at 9. The entire crew from Charm City Cakes flies to Hawaii to make a cake for Lost’s 100th episode, when Hurley himself, actor Jorge Garcia, calls up CCC and orders a special cake for the celebration. The Charm City gang — all of whom are MAJOR Lost geeks — ends up getting to visit the set, meet most of the actors, and go on a full tour of the production!

This five minute teaser is every bit as good as any extra on the Lost DVD sets, and it’s only a small part of the Ace of Cakes episode. This is going to be a real treat for all Losties, right here before the season finale, so DO NOT miss it!

What the LOSTies are doing on Summer vacation

April 23, 2009 by Robin Parrish

The break in between episodes this week got me to thinking about how there are only 3 more Wednesday nights remaining with new Lost episodes in all of 2009. We won’t see the 6th and final season until January 2010, and it will be much later this year before filming begins. So just what have Lost’s main cast members — past and present — been doing and what will they do with all that downtime?

Let’s have a look at what they’re up to, and where else they can be seen in the near future. (Note that Evangeline Lilly, Daniel Dae Kim, Terry O’Quinn, Henry Ian Cusick, Jeremy Davies, Ken Leung, and Michael Emerson are not currently listed as being involved in any other projects.)

Elizabeth Mitchell cast in V

March 23, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet) will appear as a guest star on ABC’s upcoming revamp of V, the alien invasion saga from the mid-’80s. No word yet on what part she’ll play in the TV movie (which is being made as a pilot for a potential series), but she will appear alongside headlining stars Scott Wolf (Party of Five), Joel Gretsch (The 4400), and Morena Baccarin (Firefly).

The announcement of Mitchell’s casting as part of a potential new series, made by EW’s Michael Ausiello in a worried frenzy, has set the blogosphere aflame with knee-jerk speculation that she’s leaving Lost, aka, that Juliet could be the major character death that we know is coming before the end of the year.

All the bloggers out there (Ausiello included) need to take some deep, cleansing breaths, and lay off the Red Bull. Mitchell’s joining V — as a guest star, in nothing more than a movie at this point — in no way negates her ability to be part of Lost. Keep in mind that Lost’s filming schedule is like its on-air schedule, leaving a majority of months open throughout the year for Lost actors to engage in other projects. It’s become quite common for Lost’s breakout stars to take on other roles during the show’s downtime. Also, let’s not forget that any show that starts out as a TV movie with the option to go to series, based on viewer numbers for that movie, can require up to a year or more after the movie was filmed for the series to enter production. (It’s happened that way with countless shows, the recent Battlestar Galactica being a prime example.)

So if V gets great ratings and goes to series, and if Mitchell were to join the cast in a more permanent way… The TV show V probably wouldn’t begin filming until after Lost’s sixth and final season next year, anyway.

Does that mean Juliet isn’t the major character death at the end of this season? Not at all. It just means this little bit of casting news shouldn’t increase her chances either way.

February 10, 2009 by Robin Parrish

The Daily Beast has a fun pair of interviews today with actors Michael Emerson (Ben) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet), two of the show’s most enigmatic characters. Nothing spoilery involved, just some fun thoughts from both actors on their characters, their mysterious pasts, and their various love interests.

Mitchell, however, does reveal that episode 5.08, “LeFleur,” is a particularly big one for Juliet.
