LOST’s Henry Ian Cusick accused of sexual harassment

April 26, 2009 by Robin Parrish

2006 Creative Arts Awards - Arrivals

According to E! Online, actor Henry Ian Cusick, who stars as Desmond Hume on Lost, is being sued by a former ABC employee. Chelsea Stone, a former crewmember on the show, claims that Cusick groped and harassed her in October of 2007, and after she complained, she was fired from the show 12 days later. ABC and the show’s production company are also named as defendants in the suit, as Stone says they did nothing to remedy the situation, and then, in her view, fired her unjustly. Stone claims she even suffered a miscarriage as a result of the stresses the actor’s actions placed on her.

If you wish to read more about the lawsuit, E! Online has posted the entire document. Personally, I despise it when anyone is judged in the court of public opinion before there’s even been any kind of legal proceedings… And since I’ve no way of knowing who’s innocent and who’s guilty, my opinion on all this is not valid. So I’ll be keeping it to myself, thankyouverymuch.

What I Learned from the Season 4 DVD, Part 2

December 18, 2008 by Robin Parrish

Continuing the series I began last week, here are a few more tidbits I’ve picked up so far from viewing the extra features on the Season 4 DVD set:

  • The 20-minute “Conspiracy of Lies” fake documentary reveals that Boone, Libby, and Charlie were the three survivors the Oceanic Six claimed died on the island, in their lie about the crash. I think this may have been mentioned somewhere before by the producers or someone connected to the show, but I can’t recall ever seeing official confirmation of it until now.
  • The season finale, the three-part “There’s No Place Like Home,” began filming before the script was complete. During the filming of the scene of the Oceanic Six boarding the helicopter for the final time on the freighter (just before the freighter blows) actor Jorge Garcia says that at that point, he did not yet know how Hurley got to the freighter and escaped from the island.
  • The writers used a series of maps and charts to determine and keep track of where all of the Oceanic Six were at different parts of the season, and how they would all end up escaping from the island together at the end.
  • Though he speaks with a natural accent that uses the same cadences that he uses in the show, Henry Ian Cusick’s real voice is surprisingly different-sounding than Desmond’s. It’s a bit higher and less throaty. And most fans probably already know this, but Naveen Andrews sounds very different than Sayid (he’s also British, not Middle Eastern).

Lost - Will Desmond Die?

April 13, 2008 by Nikki Katz

Lost actors and fans are always wanting to know … who lives and who dies? Well Henry Ian Cusick has a hunch that Desmond is going to die. It’s just a hunch, no logistics. But since he isn’t one of the Oceanic 6, you never know!

Henry recently chatted with the Washington Post about Lost and his character. “I am guessing he does die,” Henry says. “I just have a feeling.

That said, there’s still a lot of Desmond in the show. For the remainder of Season 4 “Desmond stays on the freighter. And you’ll see more shenanigans on the freighter.” But Henry’s not sure if we’ll see Penny again.

Henry also chatted about filming and understanding The Constant. “I didn’t find it difficult to comprehend or follow. My initial reaction was, how do I play that? I think anyone being in one time all of a sudden and then in another time, and not knowing who people are, that would put you in a mental ward. It would put me in a mental ward. So it was a fine line [for Desmond] to go bananas and not go bananas That was the challenge: To make it believable and not go over the top.

Lost - Character Profile - Desmond Hume

March 24, 2008 by Nikki Katz

Lost
Character Profile
Desmond Hume

Actor: Hery Ian Cusick

On The Island: Desmond was stranded on the island and lived in the Swan Station.

Profession: Previously a set designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Prior to the Crash:
Desmond dated Ruth for six years. They were engaged but Desmond was afraid of being married. He woke up on the street after a night of drinking and Brother Campbell, a monk at a monastery in Eddington, Scotland, offered him help. Desmond decided to join the monastery as a novice monk. After a run-in with Ruth and her brother, Desmond began drinking the wine produced at the monastery. Brother Campbell said he should leave. It was then that Desmond met Penelope Widmore (Penny). They flirted and she offered to take him back to Carlisle with her.

Penny and Desmond began to date and fell in love. Desmond was offered a job by Penny’s father, Charles Widmore. Desmond revealed that he had come to ask Penny’s hand in marriage. Widmore was not in favor of the arrangement.

Desmond began having some flash-forwards to life on the island and was able to predict some future events, including a soccer match. He purchased a ring for Penny but ultimately told her that he wasn’t good enough and threw the ring into the Thames.

Sometime around 1996, Desmond joined the Royal Scots Regiment. During this time he connected with his time-traveling self from 2004 on the Freighter. He was instructed to meet Daniel Farady at Queens College. There, Daniel told him that he needed to find a “constant”, which for Desmond was Penny.

Lost - Episode 4.05 - Penny is Back!

February 28, 2008 by Nikki Katz

Lost
Episode 4.05: The Constant
Airs: February 28, 2008
Spoilers

Henry Ian Cusick sat down with USA Today and spilled on Lost Season 4 (most specifically tonight’s episode and I’m excited to see Penny!!)

Q: So is Desmond’s episode tonight a flash-forward or flashback?
A: It’s, uh … to be honest, it’s neither. It’s more in line with those time-travel flashes before his eyes. A lot of people either love the time-travel element or hate it.

Q: The last time we saw Desmond, he and Sayid were being taken by helicopter to the freighter, but it had been taking an unusually long time to arrive. What’s up with that?
A: There’s a reason for that, and you’ll find that out in this episode. And you’ll find out why it’s so difficult to get to the island.

Q: With whom do we see Desmond interact?
A: You will see (Desmond’s love) Penny and her father, Charles Widmore. You will also see Desmond back in the military. And you’ll also meet a whole new bunch of guys on the freighter, who have been a whole lot of fun to work with.

Q: What was it like for you and Naveen Andrews (Sayid) working on that freighter out in the middle of the ocean?
A: We filmed off Barber’s Point (the west coast of Oahu) — about 10 to 15 minutes offshore. Once you’re there, you’re stuck on the boat, so we all had to find places to sleep and hide to be out of the shots. We had days and days being on that freighter and had a few night shoots as well. Because Naveen and I are both from the U.K., we had a lot of things to talk about — like characters from crappy old TV shows from our childhoods.

Q: We are learning one by one who make up the Oceanic Six, so far revealed to be Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Kate and maybe (the show’s not confirming) baby Aaron. Since Desmond was never on Flight 815, can we assume he does not turn out to be one of the six?
A: That’s what all of us were trying to figure out when we were receiving the scripts. I think it suddenly dawned on us that you had to be an original passenger on the plane that went down to be an Oceanic Six.

Q: So tell us. Who is Ben’s man on the freighter?
A: You find out, but not for a few episodes.

Lost - Actor Quotes

January 27, 2008 by Nikki Katz

Here are some spoilery quotes from the Lost actors - up at USA Today. [Big thanks to Precious who contributed this to Dark UFO]

Michael Emerson:
This man is an island: Ben is a man without resources, without an army, without henchmen. He’s going to be forced to live purely by his wits now, and we’ll see if he thrives under those circumstances,” says Emerson, who has been in New York since production stopped in November. “Whether he has a working relationship with (Others member) Juliet is anybody’s guess at this point,” he says. Emerson says the eighth episodes pick up the “dark and violent” momentum of the latter part of season 3 and that life isn’t pretty for anyone on the island. “Nobody has a home anymore. Everyone is marching around the island like refugees.” The suspicious Ben isn’t counting on help from the freighter folks. “They are formidable adversaries. They are instantly gripping and frightening and mysterious,” he says.

Yunjin Kim:
Sun-ny outlook? All women who have become pregnant on the island have died, so Sun’s health and survival will be an issue and will put her in greater contact with fertility doctor Juliet. “Sun’s and Juliet’s relationship is building, but Sun has trust issues with Juliet,” Kim says. Kim has seen some cast members, including Josh Holloway, Daniel Dae Kim and their wives since the strike started.
