LOST Season 5: “The Year of Sawyer”

January 9, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are claiming that Season 5 is going to be a big one for everyone’s favorite sarcastic southerner, as portrayed by actor Josh Holloway. “We really feel it’s the year of Sawyer,” says Lindelof. “He’s really stepping up in a major way.”

According to the Detroit Free Press, Cuse calls Season 5 “compelling” and Lindelof calls it “groovy,” when asked to describe the upcoming season in one word. Perhaps most intriguing of all, the power writing duo are determined to not tread water in this next-to-last season of the show. Says Cuse: “What we don’t want to do in season five is basically stand around sort of shifting from one foot to another waiting for the last season of the show. Like it or not, we decided to take some chances this year and be bold in our storytelling and we’re willing to accept the consequences of that.”

Speed Paintings of LOST’s Locke & Sawyer

January 7, 2009 by Robin Parrish

For your viewing pleasure today, I present to you these amazing (and surprisingly entertaining) videos depicting artist Nico di Mattia’s digital paintings. di Mattia has done digital portraits of many popular TV characters, including Lost’s Sawyer and John Locke, which you can watch below. He claims that these portraits took about three hours to create, but the videos show them in just 4 to 5 minutes. It’s pretty cool.

John Locke:

More of his work is available to view at his website. I particularly like his Optimus Prime, but then, I’m a geek, so of course I do.

Ben knows & Sawyer leads

January 2, 2009 by Robin Parrish

The newest issue of TV Guide (January 5-11, 2009 - “2009 Preview”) contains a quick Q&A with Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus) about the upcoming Season 5 and the future of his character. A few excerpts:

  • When asked about how many of the big answers Ben knows, Emerson responds, “He knows all about the game or battle that he is involved in with Charles Widmore, and I think when the final solution comes at the end of the series, the audience will know as much as Ben does. What are they playing for? World domination? Or perhaps something more abstract.
  • Jack found out in the Season 4 finale that some “very bad things” happened on the island after the Oceanic Six left. Emerson’s hint: “Something that Ben did went really wrong.” (My money is on his spinning of the frozen wheel.)

In the “Breaking News” section of the same issue of TVG, there’s a note about Sawyer’s role in the season to come. “I’ve been very busy this season, in a very different way than you’ve seen [Sawyer] before,” says actor Josh Holloway. He goes on to confirm that Sawyer will be taking on more of a “heroic leader” role for those on the island, now that Jack and Kate are both gone, and Locke is no longer part of the group.

222 Dudes

December 16, 2008 by Robin Parrish

Ever wonder how many times Hurley has spoken the word “Dude” on Lost? The answer, according to the following video, is two hundred and twenty-two. So far. Every single one of them (along with a few non-Hurley “Dude”s) is captured in this video, to comical — and surprisingly entertaining — effect.

For added fun, after the jump you’ll find a couple of videos that feature every one of Sawyer’s many nicknames for his fellow castaways.

New Season 5 promotional pictures

December 8, 2008 by Robin Parrish

Lyly Ford Blog turned up ten new promotional pictures for Season Five. The pics are individual profile shots that match the cast shots from the Season Five poster (that “Destiny Calls” one you’ve probably seen a dozen times by now), which were obviously Photoshopped together to create the poster. Here’s your chance to see each character image from that poster solo, if that strikes your fancy. Note that these are not official ABC images, but instead appear to be the cut-and-paste (but still very professional looking) concoction of a TV network in Brazil, using the Destiny Calls poster as source material. But they still turn up a few interesting tidbits…

The links and some commentary after the jump. Read more

Eggtown Uncut Scene ‘Kate and Sawyer’

Lost
Episode 4.04: Eggtown
Aired: February 21, 2008

Thanks to

During the Lost Season 4 Finale we saw Sawyer tell Kate something in the helicopter before he jumped. Kristin with E!Online checked with her sources and was told that the writers are “saving that secret for later on.

According to one insider who works on the show, Sawyer’s conversation wasn’t in the script!! He just said something …

So don’t put too much faith in the “What Sawyer Said” videos currently playing on YouTube (The one above says that Sawyer whispered “I have a daughter in Alabama, you need to find her, tell her I’m sorry“).

Only Damon and Carlton know the whole truth!

Sawyer Jumps

I have to admit that after I saw Sawyer with the members of the Oceanic Six in helicopter sneak peek, and then Lapidus called for throwing off extra weight, that this thought crossed my mind. Now I’m just sad!!

Lost - Sawyer - Sacrifices and Fears in Season Finale

May 27, 2008 by Nikki Katz

josh-holloway-lost-NC.jpgJosh Holloway recently spilled some information on the Lost Season 4 Season Finaleand Sawyer’s role and desires.

His first big news is the death toll. “There’s definitely a body count going on. And there’s a moment where a big decision has to go down.

So why isn’t Sawyer one of the Oceanic Six? “He realizes some sacrifices need to be made,” Josh says. “And I think he’s afraid to go back to society. He has gone through an evolution on that island. He has had to face all these demons and he has grown — enough to know he’s not OK with himself anymore. Instead of destroying lives, he has saved some lives. He cares about people … and has fallen in love.

These feelings for Kate come into play during the finale, as Sawyer realizes he may lose her forever. “That is a very important part of the finale that I can’t talk about,” he says.

Josh continues to talk about his own personal evolution and insecurities in the article at USA Today.
