Swan Hatch in Wolverine video game

The makers of the Wolverine movie tie-in video game are apparently big fans of Lost. Check out this video captured by a player who discovered an interesting — and very recognizable — easter egg hidden in the game!

ABC hints at major surprises for LOST’s Comic-Con panel

June 30, 2009 by Robin Parrish

A new article in The Hollywood Reporter breaks down the impact and importance that featuring a genre television show at Comic-Con International can have. Within that piece, there’s a tidbit from an ABC spokesperson about their plans for Lost at the event, which they credit as “the first TV show to launch at Comic-Con.”

ABC has taken an increasingly unique approach to its Lost panel. Instead of simply screening footage and answering questions, the event is a carefully planned production that typically includes specifically shot footage and surprise guests.

“We’ve been working on the Lost panel for literally months,” said Mike Benson, executive vp marketing at ABC Entertainment. “We want the audience to experience Lost in a fully entertaining way.”

That sound you now hear is the roof breaking from my anticipation level skyrocketing through it.

Bolivian TV airs LOST footage as Air France crash

June 30, 2009 by Robin Parrish

What in the world are they smoking in Bolivia these days?

A Bolivian news station forever soiled its credibility last week by airing screen captures from the pilot episode of Lost, and claiming it was “exclusive images” recovered from the digital camera of a dead passenger from the Air France flight that crashed on June 1st. (I tell ya, you couldn’t make up stuff like this.) The news agency in question is claiming to be victims of a hoax, and yet none of them seemed to notice that the Lost images depict a daytime plane crash, while the Air France tragedy occurred at night. Not to mention the very obvious presence of actress Evangeline Lilly in the forefront of the supposed “photographs.”

Watch the footage below, and then decide for yourself just how dumb one has to be to fall for such an obvious prank…

LOST producers on Top Chef Wednesday

June 16, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Bravo’s Top Chef Masters is airing an episode tomorrow night entitled “The Lost Supper” that features Lost masterminds Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse as guest judges. According to the show, Lindelof & Cuse are big Top Chef fans, so this week’s challenge for the show’s four remaining chef competitors is to create a meal “using ingredients such as fish, wild boar, fresh fruits and canned goods chosen by The Dharma Initiative, among other island specialties.”

Check out this early peek (and sadly no, there’s no Lindelof/Cuse in this clip):

Smoke Monster gets a spin-off

June 8, 2009 by Robin Parrish

While I was away at E3 last week, this one was picked up by a lot of the news outlets. It’s a satirical piece by The Onion, which asserts that ABC is developing a spin-off sitcom starring Lost’s smoke monster, to be called Where There’s Smoke. An excerpt:

ABC sources reported that the series will transplant the evil black cloud from the island of Lost to the suburbs of Chicago, where it works as a sports radio host, surrounded by “a whole new group of crazy characters.” Actress Lea Thompson has signed on to play the monster’s long-suffering wife, who must put up with her husband’s screwball antics while raising the couple’s two rambunctious children, Tanner and Smoky, Jr.

Is this a genius piece of editorial wit from The Onion, or evidence of too much free time on one’s hands?

If Lost were The Simpsons

May 27, 2009 by Robin Parrish

So there’s this blog called Springfield Punx run by a guy named Dean who is apparently an uber-fan of The Simpsons, because he takes the time to regularly draw and post famous people and fictional characters in the singular art style of The Simpsons. He’s posting a new drawing every day this week of characters from Lost.

Monday he posted Hurley, Tuesday he showed us his version of Charlie, and today (Wednesday), he drew Benjamin Linus. No idea who he plans to draw for Thursday or Friday, though it looks like he’s been picking his personal favorites. Personally, I’d love to see him draw the entire cast.

A Twitterer’s guide to LOST

May 26, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Do you Tweet? Twitter (as if you’ve never heard of it) is one of the hottest social networks on the Net, where anyone can sign up to post frequent updates on what they’re currently up to. You can even get updates on your mobile phone, if you like. (Find me under @robinparrish.)

Twitter has a lot to offer fans of Lost. Several actors and people involved with the show are Twitter users, and you can sign up to follow their updates. In addition, there’s a huge fan community of Lost fans on Twitter who post news, information, opinions, and much more. Here’s a handy dandy guide to some of the best and most useful Lost Tweeters out there.

Cast
Unfortunately, none of the current stars are Twitter users, but there are several former cast members and guest stars you can follow:

  • @dominicmonaghan - starred as Charlie Pace in Seasons 1-3
  • @nathanfillion - guest starred as Kate’s short-lived husband, Kevin Callis; now stars on Castle
  • @greggrunberg - appeared as Captain Seth Norris in the pilot; currently stars on Heroes
  • @cheechmarin - unconfirmed; plays Hurley’s father, David Reyes

Crew

  • @jj_abrams - it’s really him, but he rarely Tweets at all
  • @therealdamon (Damon Lindelof) - unconfirmed, but appears legit; rarely Tweets

Fans

  • @the_island - home base to a very clever circle of Tweeters that post fictional thoughts as if they were all of the characters we know and love on Lost; from there, you’ll find @jack_shephard_, @benlinus, @smokemonster, and many more
  • @lostpedia - essential Tweeting for all Lost fans; often posts news and info before anyone else
  • @lost_on_abc - another good one for unique news; could be an ABC official account, but unconfirmed
  • @darkufo - updates from the most popular Lost fansite on the Net
  • @theodi - one of the most comprehensive Lost news sites on the Net

LOST on Ace of Cakes Saturday night!

May 8, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Do not — I repeat, DO NOT — miss Ace of Cakes on the Food Network this Saturday night at 9. The entire crew from Charm City Cakes flies to Hawaii to make a cake for Lost’s 100th episode, when Hurley himself, actor Jorge Garcia, calls up CCC and orders a special cake for the celebration. The Charm City gang — all of whom are MAJOR Lost geeks — ends up getting to visit the set, meet most of the actors, and go on a full tour of the production!

This five minute teaser is every bit as good as any extra on the Lost DVD sets, and it’s only a small part of the Ace of Cakes episode. This is going to be a real treat for all Losties, right here before the season finale, so DO NOT miss it!

Lost coming to Hulu!

May 1, 2009 by Robin Parrish

As part of a just-signed deal, ABC shows are being added to Hulu, the popular online video viewing service. And already confirmed to be part of the deal is the forthcoming addition of Lost to Hulu’s library of videos. And if you’re not familiar with Hulu, the awesome part of this is that Hulu allows you to watch full episodes of your favorite shows online for free, and it offers some added bonuses like the ability to embed their videos right on your own site.

There’s no word yet on which seasons of Lost will be available on Hulu, or if ABC intends to put every season of the show online. It would be a great way for newbies to get caught up before the final season, if the latter were true.

So let me see if I can do the math on this… Lost, the most popular TV show viewed on the Internet (according to 2009 Nielsen ratings)… plus Hulu, a fan favorite watch-TV-on-the-Internet service… Should we just hand over the government to Hulu and be done with it?

What’s In the Box?

April 23, 2009 by Robin Parrish

Have you seen What’s In the Box? I hadn’t even heard of it, until I saw this post by Doc Jensen at EW.com. What’s In the Box? is a 10-minute amateur short film that’s taking YouTube by storm. It plays out as sort of a mashup of the video game Half-Life and JJ AbramsCloverfield. Abrams’ influence is all over it, with a pair of viral websites that reference Lost’s Hanso Foundation, and Lost composer Michael Giacchino’s score used in the film itself. It’s one high-quality piece of work that defies the term “amateur,” with some genuinely amazing visual effects, smart direction, and a clever, action-packed script.

What has this to do with Lost, you ask? The answer is supplied by Doc Jensen, in the aforementioned article. It seems that What’s In the Box?’s oh-so-subtle references to Lost (see: last paragraph) have led some fans to believe it has some kind of viral connection to the show. Not so, claims Damon Lindelof, who’s as impressed as everyone else with the quality of the short film, but says it has no connection whatsoever to Lost. Read all the details at the link above, and whatever you do, watch the uber-cool film itself to see what all the fuss is about:
